(Nevada Policy) – Friday marked a major deadline in the session—bills had to pass out of their original committees to stay alive, unless they were exempt.
We’re finalizing a full breakdown of what died and what survived, but here’s a quick snapshot of key bills that were heard and voted on this week:
Nevada Policy in Spotlight this week:
SB220 – Oppose | ➡️ Passed Committee (No Recommendation)
Creates the Nevada Film Infrastructure Act, offering film studios transferable tax credits and creating a specialized academy at UNLV. Could cost billions over 20 years.
SB443 – Oppose | ✅ Passed Committee
Requires prevailing wage for natural gas infrastructure projects funded by utilities—raising project costs and likely utility rates.
SB428 – Support | ✅ Passed Committee
Tightens residency rules for elected officials and lets voters challenge candidates’ residency status. Adds transparency to local and statewide races.
AB441 – Oppose | ✅ Passed Committee
Requires Opportunity Scholarship granting organizations to use donations within 18 months or give them back to the Department of Taxation. Could disrupt funding for school choice options, and cause disruptions in education of the scholars.
SB431 – Oppose | ✅ Passed Committee
Expands the live entertainment tax to ticket resales and pro sports team games, such as the Golden Knights. Adds costs for consumers and compliance burdens for resellers.
AB383 – Support | ✅ Passed Committee
Directs the DOE to list high-impact tutoring programs to help students recover in math, reading, and writing. Research-backed, scalable, and successful this intervention has been heavily implemented nationwide.
That wraps up this week’s key movements at the Legislature. More updates are coming soon in our bill tracker. As always, we’re following the action closely—because someone has to read the fiscal notes, amendments, and the fine print.
Best,
