What Nevada Public Schools Can’t Give Your Child (And How to Get It)

Posted By

I grew up homeschooled right here in Nevada. I’ve never once wished that I had attended public school.

Homeschooling worked for my family. It worked for me.

I’ve personally seen it work for hundreds of Nevada students over the years.

That’s why I’m excited to share the monthly Introduction to Homeschooling Workshops, hosted by RISE Rource Center and led by Elissa Wahl along with the Nevada Homeschool Network.

If you’re new to homeschooling, or even just feeling curious, these workshops are a great place to start.

Elissa walks parents through the basics and answers the questions everyone has:

  • What does the legal side of homeschooling look like?
  • What about socialization?
  • Do I need expensive curriculum?
  • Can you homeschool high school?
  • How do transcripts work?

She explains in plain language, with real-life examples. And if you can’t attend live, everyone who registers gets the recording afterward.

The cost is $20 per couple, with scholarships available. Proceeds support RISE’s work helping families understand their educational options.

A Homeschooled Kid’s Message For Families

A lot of parents today feel like public schools no longer reflect their values. I can’t say they’re wrong.

Not only that, but it often feels like the focus has drifted so far from the fundamentals that students aren’t grasping the basics.

Homeschooling gives parents back the driver’s seat.

You get to decide what your kids learn, how they learn it, and what values are reinforced at home.

You don’t have to replicate a public school in your living room. Your kid isn’t limited to that.

It might be intimidating if you’re used to a traditional structure, but it was worth it for me – and you’re not without a support group.

One of Elissa’s featured workshops focuses on hands-on learning, creative projects, and real-world experiences.

Think field trips, building things, and turning everyday life into lessons that actually stick.

That’s the kind of learning I grew up with.

It teaches kids how to think, not just what to memorize.

Yes, I Was Homeschooled Through High School

Another popular workshop covers homeschooling through high school, including record keeping and transcripts.

This is where many parents panic.

College. Jobs. Diplomas.

Elissa breaks it all down and explains what Nevada actually requires. She’s helped families navigate this for decades.

It’s far less intimidating once someone shows you how.

If homeschooling has been sitting in the back of your mind, this is an easy first step.

You don’t have to commit to anything. You’re more than welcome to just come learn.
