(Todd Taxpayer) – I got a call the other night at 2 am, something that hasn’t happened in over 10 years. Who’s calling at 2 am?
It was the Republicans for Reid, also known as the Ritz Republicans For Reid. To my surprise, they were calling to get support for Question 1, if Nevadans vote YES on Question 1, they will no longer be able to vote for the initial selection of judges.
How do I know it was Republicans For Reid? A careful analysis of the supporters of ballot Question 1 shows many of the same people who are Ritzy Republicans For Reid. This extremist group is a collection of people who profit from political activity and government contracts, while most everybody else in Nevada is suffering extreme financial distress.
They have become an embarrassment for Nevada, supporting a democrat who claimed the United States had been defeated on the battlefield while troops were still on the ground. A candidate who is getting outside help from a member of Hezbollah and has a staffer who forged documents to smuggle in a suspected terrorist to the United States.
There is a very good reason Republicans For Reid are supporting Question 1, they want to remove the two-thirds requirement to raise taxes, a Constitutional Amendment passed by Nevada voters twice. In 2003, it was the Nevada Supreme Court who initially removed this voter approved requirement on the Nevada Legislature. Facing voters just 10 months later, the justices wisely reversed themselves, and affirmed the two-thirds requirement to raise taxes in Nevada.
Question 1 makes it possible to remove the two thirds requirement by making it much easier to remove a judge, making the process more political. Currently a judge must get at least one extra vote to win an election, under Question 1 a judge would need to get 55% of the vote.
This will be the new hammer that the Ritzy Republicans For Reid will use on the judiciary to get the removal of the two-thirds requirement to raise taxes from the Constitution in Nevada, consolidating their power like never before. In fact, a vote for Question 1 is really a vote for the power structure that is Republicans For Reid. That’s why they were calling me at 2 am.
This little incident is just another example, in a long list of examples, on how public policy, guided by the Republicans For Reid over the last ten years, has led Nevada to where it is today. That is the choice you will have on election day on Question 1, and many candidates.
So when you hear the Mayor of Reno, who lives in the Ritzy community of Eagles Nest, chime in about how radical Sharron Angle is, don’t forget who has made all the money and decisions, while you’ve paid for the excesses of local government that the Ritzy Republicans For Reid always support.
This latest embarrassment isn’t just limited to Nevada, as it was a robotic former Justice of the Supreme Court Sandra Day O’Connor who was calling me at 2 am. This is the group we are supposed to trust with our decision on the Senate, the State, and Nevada Judges? Ritzy Republicans For Reid?
No thanks.
