(Kaeley Cook) – Nevada is, for the most part, a rare pocket of sanity.
We’ve got no state income tax and an economy that WalletHub recently ranked as the 9th best for starting a business in 2026.
But we’ve got a plumbing problem.
Right now, if you’re a multi-million-dollar corporation with a complex merger dispute, you have to stand in the same legal line as a guy contesting a shoplifting charge or a messy divorce.
It’s like trying to perform heart surgery in a crowded DMV waiting room. It’s slow, it’s messy, and it’s predictably disastrous.
While the Tax Foundation ranks our individual income tax climate at #8, our overall “cost of doing business” is taking a hit because of this administrative sludge.
For anyone looking to invest real money, that kind of “uncertainty” is a polite word for running for the hills.
The “Delaware Opening” Delaware, once the gold standard for corporate law, is currently busy making itself look like a high-maintenance ex-spouse.
They’ve become unpredictable and risky, creating a rare window for Nevada to steal their lunch.
By building a dedicated Business Court, we can offer what serious people actually want: specialized judges who understand fiduciary duty without needing a glossary.
The Plan: AJR 8 & Our New White Paper In the 2025 session, the Legislature gave its first approval to Assembly Joint Resolution No. 8 (AJR 8), a constitutional amendment to create these specialized courts.
But we can’t just cross our fingers and hope it passes a second time.
Nevada Policy is producing a definitive White Paper to serve as the foundation for this entire effort.
This isn’t just a book report; it’s a strategic roadmap that will help legislators understand the gravity of this policy change and educate voters so every Nevadan can receive these benefits:
- Higher Wages: By attracting high-value corporate headquarters (the “Delaware Exit” crowd), we bring in executive and technical roles that pay significantly higher than the state average, often over $135,000 a year.
- Economic Stability: A more sophisticated legal system attracts diverse industries, moving us away from a “boom-bust” tourism reliance and toward a stable, high-growth economy.
- Efficiency for All: Moving complex cases to a specialized court unclogs the general docket, meaning ordinary citizens get faster resolutions for everyday legal matters.
