(Michele Fiore) – I’m proud to report Assembly Bill 167 was passed by the Assembly on Monday. Our District 4 constituents, Brian and Valerie Wilson, suggested this bill that will protect the 2nd Amendment rights of those willing to take in foster children. AB 167 is now headed to the Nevada Senate.
Tuesday the Assembly Committee on Natural Resources will be hearing Assembly Bill 408, the Nevadans Resource Rights bill, is working to put Nevada’s land and resources back where they belong, in the hands of the people. We need your help to send a message to the committee. Please join us in Carson City, Las Vegas or Elko at 1:30pm to show your support.
Currently, the federal government owns about 89% of Nevada’s land. To put this into perspective, the federal government owns an average of 5%of the land in states on the east coast. This is so important because everything we own and use in our daily lives is derived from natural resources. When we let the federal government own our land, and give them the power to enforce whatever taxes and fees they want, it greatly affects how Nevada is able to produce its own goods.
Not only is this completely unconstitutional, but to make things worse, the rangers who are enforcing these federally owned lands are not trained well enough to keep our citizens safe. A sad example of this is the man who was shot and killed by park rangers at Red Rock last February. These rangers were not qualified to handle an escalating situation, and resorted to killing a man as a solution.
Assemblyman Hansen has introduced a bill addressing the law enforcement authority of the federal government in Nevada. Assembly Bill 283 was heard by the Assembly Judiciary committee this week.
The big question that comes to mind when you hear startling statistics and tragic stories, like the man who was killed at Red Rock last year, is why? Why does the federal government own so much of Nevada’s land? Why are our park rangers acting as police officers? This Saturday on “Walk the Talk with Michele Fiore” we are taking a deeper look into this situation, and trying to answer this question. Join us at 9am tomorrow on KDWN 720AM.
Ammon Bundy, son of the last standing rancher in Clark County, Cliven Bundy, joins me to talk about AB 408, and how this bill is a solution for Nevada and it’s people. Ammon also offers some insight into how Nevada was founded and why the federal government owns so much of our land.
Then, Sherriff Keith Logan of Eureka County will join us to talk about his experience with the BLM and why the people of rural Nevada need our support passing AB 408.
We need to join together to pass this bill, and stop letting the federal government overreach, and literally steal our rights out from under our feet. AB 408 offers a simple solution that will help get Nevada back to the state it was intended to be.
