(Logan Gifford) – For 12 years, I’ve worked in Nevada politics. I’ve knocked on doors, run campaigns and argued my side as hard as anyone.
This fall I’m doing something different: serving as deputy manager and an observer for the Nevada Election Observation Network, a nonpartisan effort with The Carter Center to watch how our elections are run and objectively report what we see.
According to a 2022 MIT study, most Americans have higher trust in election outcomes when nonpartisan observers monitor the process.
The founders’ genius was trusting ordinary citizens to take part in running this republic.
If I want to help restore trust and transparency in our elections, I have to do my part.
Observers don’t pick winners or interfere with voters and election workers. We watch, document and report so that the public has access to election processes.
The windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror for a reason. Voting is a patriotic act, and so is watching over the process.
Efforts such as this run on volunteers, and they gain momentum only when people show up.
If you’ve ever wondered whether Nevada’s elections are run fairly, don’t take anyone’s word for it, including mine.
Sign up to observe and see for yourself.
