Citizen Outreach Joins Coalition Urging Support for Sugar Program Reform Resolution

Citizen Outreach Joins Coalition Urging Support for Sugar Program Reform Resolution
N&V Staff
February 4, 2019

(February 4, 2019) – Citizen Outreach and eight other national free-market organizations today sent a letter to Congress urging support for a proposed House resolution that places “America first” when it comes to global sugar trade.

“Congress has a made-to-order opportunity to…send a clear message that trade ‘cheating’ will not be tolerated and America will be put first,” the letter reads.  “That opportunity lies in the bipartisan ‘Zero for Zero’ resolution (H.Con.Res.7) sponsored by Representative Ted Yoho.”

The letter asks Members to sign on as cosponsors of the resolution.

Zero for Zero calls for the elimination of “all direct and indirect subsidies that benefit the production or export of sugar by all major sugar producing and consuming countries.”

“In effect,” the letter continues, “the resolution stipulates that the U.S. will move to reform its domestic sugar policy only after major international sugar dumpers, like Brazil, India and Thailand, agree to stop the extreme subsidizing of their sugar industries.”

The letter is signed by Chuck Muth, president of Citizen Outreach, along with Rick Manning of Americans for Limited Government, Jim Martin of 60 Plus Association, Andrew Langer of Institute for Liberty, Matt Kandrach of Consumer Action for a Strong Economy, Tom Giovanetti of the Institute for Policy Innovation, Mario Lopez of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, Seton Motley of Less Government and Judson Phillips of Tea Party Nation.
