Mack PAC Agenda Watch: Clark County commissioners meet Tuesday, August 18, at 9:00 a.m.
Two weeks ago, they introduced a new ordinance to tighten rules on short-term rentals.
Now it's back for a final vote.
The Airbnb Ordinance Reaches a Public Hearing
This time, commissioners will hold a public hearing on the short-term rental ordinance starting at 10 a.m.
That means residents can speak before the vote happens.
The ordinance would require rental platforms to verify a property is properly licensed before accepting payment.
It would force platforms to deactivate any listing that isn't licensed.
It would tighten who can collect lodging taxes on short-term rentals.
And it would add civil penalties for licensees who break the rules.

$45.7 Million in New Hospital Debt
Commissioners will also consider two resolutions tied to University Medical Center of Southern Nevada.
Together, they authorize up to $45,770,000 in general obligation bonds to fund hospital improvement projects.
The bonds would be repaid using hospital revenue, not general tax dollars, according to the agenda language.
Still, any new county debt is worth watching, especially at this size.
Other Big-Dollar Items
The hospital bonds aren't the only major spending item Tuesday.
Commissioners will also consider:
A $70,558,705.47 reservation of the county's Private Activity Bond Volume Cap for 2026, a pool of tax-exempt bond authority the county can allocate to qualifying projects.
$22,900,000 in Room Tax collections for two ballfield projects, the Hollywood Regional Park Multiuse Ballfield Complex and the Sunset Regional Park Little League Ballfield Renovation.
$541,201.68 in taxpayer refunds, following a required legal process under state law.
A New Franchise, and a Look at Broadband
Commissioners will decide whether to accept an application from Level 3 Communications, LLC, for a telecommunications franchise in unincorporated Clark County.
If accepted, a public hearing on awarding the franchise is set for October 6.
Commissioners will also receive an update on the county's broadband programs and direct staff on next steps.
Foster Care and Public Health
Clark County Family Services will present data and strategies on foster care recruitment.
Commissioners will also receive a report on air quality penalty fund spending from the Clark County School District, and approve next year's spending plan for those funds.
Most of This Passes in One Vote
Twenty-seven items sit on Tuesday's consent agenda, covering contracts, grants, and routine county business.
Like most meetings, these items get approved together in a single motion unless a commissioner asks to pull one out for separate discussion.
That's how most of county government's day-to-day decisions get made, often without individual debate.
