Clark County Set to Remove a Funding Cap from County Code

Posted By

Clark County commissioners meet Tuesday, September 15, at 9:00 a.m.

The headline item is one commissioners introduced two weeks ago.

Now it’s back for a public hearing and a final vote.

Removing a Funding Limit

The ordinance would remove a funding limit currently written into county code.

It would also remove a sunset date and related funding limitations tied to an earlier county ordinance.

In plain terms, this takes a cap off the books.

Commissioners introduced this item without discussion at the last meeting.

Tuesday’s public hearing is the first chance residents get to weigh in before a final vote.

The agenda doesn’t specify what the funding is used for or how large the current cap is, so residents who want the full picture should review the ordinance language directly.

$10 Million for Liberace Avenue

Commissioners will also consider allocating $10,000,000 for the redevelopment of property at 800 Liberace Avenue, located within the Commercial Center area.

This item also goes before the Clark County Redevelopment Agency, since the board sits in that role as well.

A Bonus for UMC’s Top Executive

Commissioners, sitting as the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada Board of Hospital Trustees, will consider ratifying a merit salary adjustment and incentive bonus for UMC’s Chief Executive Officer for Fiscal Year 2026.

The UMC governing board already approved this pay increase. Tuesday’s vote would formally ratify it at the commission level.

$6 Million for Affordable Housing

Commissioners will consider obligating $6,000,000 in Community Housing Funds to preserve 120 units of what the county calls “attainable housing,” through a deal with FWM Paseo, LLC.

New Fees on Road Closures

Commissioners will introduce an ordinance updating fees tied to road closures, lane closures, and right-of-way permits for construction and special events.

This is introduction only. A public hearing will be scheduled before any final vote, so this one is worth watching for later, not this week.

A Step Toward New Hospital Bonds

Commissioners will also consider a Resolution of Intent, a procedural step toward issuing up to $45,770,000 in hospital improvement bonds.

NNV reported on this same bond amount back in August, when it first appeared on the agenda as a financing resolution. Tuesday’s action moves the process one step closer to an actual bond sale.

A Smaller Bond for a Charter School

Commissioners will hold a public hearing on a resolution supporting up to $7,000,000 in tax-exempt bonds for Discovery Charter School, to help finance a facility on South Sandhill Road.

As with the larger hospital bond NNV covered last month, the county’s role here is procedural. Clark County isn’t repaying this debt.

Most of This Passes in One Vote

Thirty items sit on Tuesday’s consent agenda, covering routine contracts, interlocal agreements, and county business.

These typically pass together in a single motion unless a commissioner asks to pull one out.
