Las Vegas GOP Activist George Harris Takes Lead in Fighting Hollywood Studio Giveaway

Whether you live in northwest Las Vegas or anywhere in Senate District 8, you may be getting mail this week that pulls no punches.

Conservative activist and GOP candidate George Harris has personally sent a letter to more than 2,000 constituents living near the proposed studio-site urging them to call Gov. Joe Lombardo’s office and tell him “not on our watch.”

Harris is running for the Nevada State Senate in the 2026 election, and he’s tying his campaign not just to election politics but to defending local taxpayers and neighborhoods from big-government overreach.

What’s on the Agenda?”

The state is preparing to convene a special session at Gov. Lombardo’s request, maybe as soon as this week.

Among the items reportedly on the agenda: a massive Hollywood-style studio complex that would rely on public incentives, tax breaks and state participation.

Harris objects.

He says this is yet another example of government picking winners and losers, putting local pockets, public safety and neighborhood stability at risk. He told his neighbors:

“We did not elect big-spending bureaucrats to hand out giveaways to Hollywood. You deserve transparency, you deserve accountability, and you deserve voices at the table.”

Why Harris Opposes It

Harris argues that when government uses tax dollars or incentives to lure big entertainment firms, the risks are high.

He raises questions like: Who pays if the project stalls? Will increased traffic, crime or strain on services follow? Are local parents and families considered in the plan?

From a conservative viewpoint, the issue touches on too many core themes: limited government that lives within its means; personal responsibility – not taxpayers caught footing the bill for private profit; and public safety and local control, not centralized decisions made far away.

Decades of Conservative Activism

Harris has been active in Nevada politics for many years. He served as Clark County GOP chairman in the mid-1990s, as well as Finance Chairman for the Nevada Republican Party.

He’s publisher of the conservative Liberty Watch magazine and back in 2010 filed paperwork for what was dubbed the “Tequila Party of Nevada.”

That event may have raised eyebrows, but it underscored a willingness to challenge the status quo inside both his party and the state.

His earlier activism helped push Republicans toward tougher stands on tax pledges and government spending.

Now, as a candidate for State Senate District 8, he’s using that background to say: “I’m the guy who will stand up when others sit quietly.”

What Hollywood’s Enablers Say

Supporters of the studio project argue it would create jobs, spur economic growth, and place Nevada on the map for entertainment production.

They say incentives are common – and necessary – in competing with California and other states.

But Harris counters that government incentives don’t guarantee promised jobs or tax dollars.

Far too often, he says, the shoe ends up on taxpayers rather than developers and warns:

“Growth that isn’t rooted in the people who live here tends to benefit outsiders – and leave locals holding the bag.”

What You Can Do Now

Harris is urging constituents to act now: pick up the phone, call the governor’s office, and tell him you want the studio proposal pulled from the special session agenda.

He’s leading door-to-door and mail outreach to make sure his neighbors know what’s at stake.

For Nevada Republicans and independents alike, his message is simple: we didn’t go into public service so that bureaucrats could give away your tax dollars to big business. We did it so that liberty, local control and accountability would win.

If you live in or near what might become the studio zone, George Harris is amplifying your voice. He’s turning decades of GOP activism and conservative advocacy into action right where you live.

Call. Speak up. And let your elected officials know: taxpayer dollars belong to you – not special-interest giveaways.
