(NN&V Staff) – Nevada stands out as a major puzzle for Joe Biden and Donald Trump in the US presidential election due to its sparse population and high proportion of Spanish-speaking residents, making it exceptionally challenging to poll.
Recent surveys show starkly different results: a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll found Biden and Trump tied, while a New York Times/Siena College poll saw Trump ahead by 12 points.
No other battleground state has shown such wide polling variations. Rapid demographic changes and the unique workforce composition of Las Vegas further complicate accurate polling.
Biden’s victory margin in Nevada in 2020 was narrow, and the state currently grapples with high inflation and unemployment.
Pollsters face challenges due to nontraditional work hours in Las Vegas and language barriers, with 23% of voters not speaking English as their first language.
Both campaigns are strategizing on how to allocate resources effectively given the state’s fast-changing electorate, with a significant turnover since the 2020 election.
Nevada’s increasing number of nonpartisan voters and a shrinking Democratic registration advantage add to the complexity of predicting electoral outcomes.
