Nevada Families Are Being Taxed Out of Their Homes – I’m Going to Fix That

Ten States Are Cutting Property Taxes – Nevada Should Be Next

You worked your whole life to own your home. Now the government wants a bigger cut of it every single year – whether you can afford it or not.

I've had enough of that. And I think you have too.

My name is George Harris. I'm running for Nevada State Senate District 8. And if you send me to Carson City, fighting for property tax relief will be one of my top priorities.

This isn't a talking point. It's personal.

I've watched too many Nevada families get priced out of homes they've owned for years – not because they couldn't make the mortgage, but because the government kept raising the tax bill on top of it.

That's wrong. And it's fixable.

The Rest of the Country Is Already Moving

Right now, we're seeing what CNN is calling “the biggest property tax revolt in 50 years.” Ten states are taking serious action in 2026 to cut or eliminate the property tax entirely.

Florida, Texas, Ohio, Michigan, North Dakota, Georgia, Indiana, Oklahoma, and South Dakota are all on that list.

Florida, under Governor Ron DeSantis, is the furthest along – actively working to phase out the property tax altogether.

The economist leading this charge nationally is Dr. Arthur Laffer, co-founder of the Committee to Unleash Prosperity.

He helped shape Ronald Reagan's economic agenda. Now he's pushing states across the country to give homeowners real relief.

When Laffer focuses on something, serious people pay attention.

We've Seen This Work Before

In 1978, California voters passed Proposition 13 by nearly a two-to-one margin. It capped property tax increases and gave homeowners real protection from runaway government assessments.

That vote helped fuel a quarter century of California economic growth. Two years later, Ronald Reagan rode that same anti-tax energy straight to the White House.

History doesn't always repeat. But this one is rhyming pretty loudly right now.

Nevada Is Feeling This Too

Our state isn't on that list of ten. But the squeeze is just as real here.

Las Vegas home values have surged. Long-time residents are being pushed out of neighborhoods they've called home for decades.

Property tax assessments have climbed right along with those values. And the Nevada Legislature hasn't been in any hurry to do anything about it.

Look at Kansas.

The Kansas Policy Institute found that property taxes there have risen two to three times faster than population growth and inflation combined. Nevada isn't Kansas, but the trend line is familiar.

People shouldn't have to choose between paying their tax bill and staying in their home. That's not limited government. That's government that's gotten too big for its britches.

What I Plan to Do

When I get to Carson City, I'm going to push for meaningful property tax relief legislation.

I'm watching what's working in other states – whether that's a hard cap on annual assessment increases like Prop 13, or broader relief measures like what Florida is pursuing.

The details matter and I'll work through them with my colleagues.

But the principle isn't negotiable. Nevada homeowners deserve protection from assessments that keep climbing faster than their incomes.

This Is Bigger Than One Race

This isn't just about tax policy. It's about whether hardworking Nevada families get to stay in their homes or get taxed out of them by a government that always wants more.

Ten states are already in this fight. Nevada should be too.

I'm asking for your vote on November 3rd. Let's take this fight to Carson City together.
